How can tourism flourish when we have a TA and Safekey that is useless and is simply discouraging visitors? How many people with a valid TA brought in covid anyway?
What exactly are many BTA employees doing given that our Tourism has declined so significantly.? Not a criticism, just a fact. Do we have the same number of employees being paid full time as we did before COVID?
It doesn’t help that the US requires a clean test before returning home either. Not exactly an incentive to travel.
“Starting on December 6, air travellers aged two and older, regardless of nationality or vaccination status, are required to show documentation of a negative viral test result taken within one day of the flight’s departure to the United States before boarding. You must show your negative result to the airline before you board your flight. That includes all travellers – U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents (LPRs), and foreign nationals.”
A clean COVID test is something we all have had to have for various reasons, the TA is a whole different kettle of fish. All you have to do is read some of the questions on MAJ List on the TA forms. Confusion reins. If WE make it easy for them they WILL come.
For the most part, the TA is an electronic version of the immigration form we used to fill out manually every time we travelled for decades and there were no complaints. I am not understanding the big fuss that is made whenever the TA is mentioned. It is not the reason for tourism decline, but it is being blamed as everything is made political.
Also the off season has always seen a tourism decline.
Why has the BTA consistently failed to produce a proper tourism strategy that starts with where we want to be as a destination brand and the steps towards achieving it?
Our strategy is so piecemeal and fragmented focusing on immaterial things like experiences and promotions rather than infrastructure and brand ! ?
That’s what happens when you force out professionals and install “yes men”.
There all puppets doing what there told.
Eventually we will all have to leave the island on a boat.
5000 to 1600 hotel rooms well that says it all right there
Until that changes tourism is a sinking ship no matter what marketing you throw at it
How and who got us here – that is the question?
Our only hope is cruise ships at this point
I believe we actually had 10,000 rooms at one time
12,000 Rick. That was before Hurricane Emily closed the Club Med/Holiday Inn/ Lowes Bermuda Beach, whatever you want to call it.
