Conyers Black History Month Essay Competition

Conyers is inviting all local middle and senior school students, grades 8-12, to submit an essay of 1,500 words discussing “Why it is important to recognise Black History Month in Bermuda?” – with the winner to earn a $1,000 prize.

A spokesperson said, “Conyers announces its annual Black History Month essay competition. The firm invites all local middle and senior school students, grades 8-12, to submit an essay of 1,500 words discussing “Why it is important to recognise Black History Month in Bermuda?”

Conyers Director, Chiara Nannini said, “Conyers is committed to fostering and encouraging a plurality of voices and experiences. The theme of this year’s essay to honour Black History Month hopes to inspire students to think about how diversity and inclusion is represented in our community.”

“The deadline for entries is 5:00 pm, Friday 21 February, 2022. The winner will be awarded a prize of $1,000. The second place winner and an honourable mention will each receive $500. Full competition details can be found at www.conyers.com/essay.

“The rules are as follows:

  • One author per essay; one essay per student.
  • An essay submission must be the author’s original, unpublished work.
  • All work must be typed and double spaced. Essays should include citation of any references.
  • Essays must be submitted in Word format via email to careers@conyers.com no later than 21 February, 2022 by 5:00 pm [AST].
  • Students must include first and last name, grade, school of attendance, telephone number and/or email address.
  • Essay must be a maximum of 1500 words.
  • Eligible contestants must be a legal resident of Bermuda, and be a middle or senior school student [grades 8 - 12] during the 2021-2022 school year.
  • A panel of judges will review the essays and select winners.
  • All decisions regarding winners will be at the sole discretion of the judges and will be final and binding in all respects.
  • Conyers reserves the right to publish, reproduce or otherwise use, at their discretion, any essay submitted in whole or in part for media or promotional purposes, in any manner determined by Conyers.”
