Delta, Kappa & Essent $50,000 Scholarship Fund
The Bermuda Alumnae Chapters of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity have renewed their partnership with Essent Reinsurance Ltd. to facilitate a $50,000 scholarship fund
A spokesperson said, “Essent Reinsurance Ltd. partners with the Bermuda Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and the Bermuda Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
“The Bermuda Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and The Bermuda Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. have renewed their partnership with Essent Reinsurance Ltd. [“Essent Re”] to facilitate a $50,000 scholarship fund for participants of their respective mentorship programs: Growing and Empowering Myself Successfully [Delta GEMS] Mentoring Program and The Bermuda Kappa Youth Leadership & Development League [Kappa League].
“The Delta GEMS program is designed to support young women, between 14 and 18 years old, to achieve their personal, educational and professional goals. The program helps to develop strong leadership, communications, study and life skills while the students participate in public service and community projects.
“The Kappa League is a program designed to aid young men in growing and developing their leadership talents in every phase of human endeavor. This national initiative is a program for the educational, occupational and social guidance of male students in grades S1 through S4. The purpose of the Kappa League is to promote and develop the leadership potential of its members through participation in club-oriented activities and at the same time, motivate them to raise their aspirations.
The Bermuda Alumnae Chapter President, Ms. Nina Jacobs commented, “The Essent Re Bermuda College scholarship provides financial support to college students in need. The Bermuda College is an ideal tertiary option for the Delta GEMS participants. The Bermuda Alumnae Chapter is grateful to Essent Re for their generous donation. Since the scholarship started in September 2020, five high school graduates have had their books and tuition paid for.”
Mr. Kenyatta Tucker, Chairman of the Kappa League committee also expressed his gratitude, adding, “Since inception, we have been able to assist six young men with their enrollment at Bermuda College and we look forward to continuing to enable our students to achieve higher education in the coming years with Essent Re’s support.”
Essent Re President & Chief Underwriting Officer, Mr. Paul Wollmann stated, “As champions of education for underserved youth, Essent Re is pleased to partner with the Delta GEMS and the Kappa League to enhance their ability to mentor young Bermudians and provide financial aid for further education at the Bermuda College.”
