Scott Barnes added another title to his well-stocked trophy cabinet after dominating the Skusa Winter Series at the AMR Homestead-Miami Motorplex in Florida at the weekend.

The island’s top karting driver reigned supreme in all four rounds of the competition, held over two weekends, winning three of the four heats and three of the four finals in the Shifter Masters class.

Having enjoyed a near-perfect weekend in the opening two rounds last month, Barnes continued where he left off in rounds three and four on Saturday and Sunday.

He won the heat and final on Saturday; however, he was disqualified after breaching car regulations in the heat on Sunday but claimed victory in the day’s final despite starting at the back of the grid.

As per the series rules, Barnes was able to drop his worst finish in a final, a DNF due to engine problems in round one last month.

“We were pretty dominant all weekend,” said Barnes, racing for Indiana-based Harden Motorsports Group. “We pretty much had perfect points.

“I finished runner-up in the heat race [on Sunday] but had a DQ because the rear width was too narrow and had to start at the back in the final.

“I ran third for six laps, moved up to second and managed to take the lead before pulling away. We couldn’t have hoped for a better final weekend to the series.”

Barnes, 37, was runner-up in the Shifter Masters class in the Skusa Winter Series last year.
