Bermuda Wins ‘Best Airport Of Size In Region’

March 10, 2022

The LF Wade International Airport has been voted the Best Airport of its Size in the Latin America and Caribbean region.

A Skyport spokesperson said, “The Airport Council International [ACI] World Airport Service Quality [ASQ] Awards, which are held annually, celebrate and showcase the world’s best airports as voted for by travelers, and this year, Bermuda’s airport won the showcase award in the region for airports with 2 million annual passengers or less.

“The new LF Wade International Airport passenger terminal, built by Canada’s Aecon Construction and several Bermudian sub-contractors, and operated by Bermuda Skyport Corporation, a subsidiary of Aecon Concessions, was voted on by passengers in over thirty different categories, including facilities, cleanliness and ambience, security, check-in and overall satisfaction.

“In addition to the Best Airport by Size and Region award, the LF Wade International Airport was also voted as having the Best Hygiene Measures of any airport in Latin America and the Caribbean.

“The new health and hygiene related questions added to the traveler survey questionnaire in 2020 were designed to measure the customer response to new hygiene measures taken by airport operators to minimize the spread of COVID-19 within their terminal facilities. And according to travelers, Skyport and the LF Wade International Airport had the best hygiene measures in its class.”

Aaron Adderley, President, Bermuda Skyport, says: “Having navigated our way through several challenges, none greater perhaps than the Covid pandemic, to ultimately deliver the new terminal for Bermuda was a great accomplishment for the many men and women involved in its planning, construction, operation and service delivery. To now have that accomplishment recognized and appreciated on an international stage by travelers is incredibly rewarding and is a testament to all of the agencies and service providers who make up LF Wade International.”

Luis Felipe de Oliveira, ACI World Director General, says: “After a second year of the pandemic, this year’s Airport Service Quality [ASQ] Award winners are especially reflective of customer experience leadership during the most challenging time in our sector’s history. We are exceedingly proud of their stellar leadership in delivering the very best customer experience.

“The basis of the ASQ surveys and the entire suite of solutions is continual learning and improvement to reach sustainable customer experience excellence. As the industry recovers, continuing to listen and adapt to travelers will be absolutely crucial to strengthening airports’ competitive advantage, non-aeronautical revenue, and ensuring the sustained recovery of the entire aviation ecosystem.

Mikaela Pearman, Marketing and Communications Officer, Skyport, says: “These prestigious industry awards are even more rewarding considering the impact of the pandemic on available investment and the supply and cost of goods and materials, which has somewhat limited the ability of Skyport and airport concessionaires to make available, all the services and amenities that were originally planned to be on offer upon opening. However, we’re hopeful that as traffic picks up and the pandemic subsides, our facilities, restaurants and award-winning retail shops will have their full suite of services and amenities on offer for our passengers.”

“Over 370,000 passenger surveys were conducted in 2021 to gather the data for the ACI ASQ Awards. In total, 111 awards were won by 88 individual airports from around the world,” Skyport added.
