BMA Warns About ‘Fraudulent Email’ Circulating
The Bermuda Monetary Authority has issued an advisory about a “fraudulent email targeted at Bermuda’s financial services entities.”
A Government spokesperson said, “On Tuesday 8 March 2022, the Bermuda Monetary Authority [Authority or BMA] was made aware of a fraudulent email targeted at Bermuda’s financial services entities which falsely gives that appearance of coming from accounting@bma.bm along with the subject line stating, “Reminder: Unpaid Invoice!”. This is not a legitimate email address for the BMA.
“The fraudulent email misappropriates the name of the Authority and attempts to trick recipients into providing information about any outstanding balances owed to the Authority.
“A report has been filed with the Bermuda Police Service. The Authority wishes to advise the public that it would not make this request, that any e-mails that make this request should be regarded as phishing attempts and that the public should avoid clicking on any links within these e-mails.”
