Saltus To Host Bermuda Youth Film Festival
The Bermuda Youth Film Festival will be hosted by Saltus, with final entries due by May 26.
A spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Youth Film Festival is being launched before spring break and will be hosted by Saltus. This is a new event designed to capture the current increase in student interest in film making as a result of the pandemic reducing access to live performances.”
Therese Bean, the Performing Arts, Film and Media teacher at Saltus, said, “One of the most notable changes to education due to the pandemic has been seeking new ways to showcase student work. The reliance on the virtual learning world and the need to film practical performances has meant that an interest in filmmaking or capturing work in digital formats has become far more prevalent.”
The spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Youth Film Festival was inspired by Therese’s excitement to seek new opportunities for students to produce creative works that can be shared publicly. This event is open island-wide to all students aged 11 to 18 years and they are invited to submit short films in three categories: 60 second sprint; 1–3-minute short shorts, and 3–5-minute short films.
“Entries are limited to one per category per student, but students can submit multiple entries [in different categories]. We encourage schools to support a variety of student entries.
“The fun aspect of this festival is that all films will need to include the signature item, which is the Bermuda Longtail this year. All films that are submitted will be required to have a teacher acknowledgment form to ensure that the films meet the requirements. Therese has also secured local judges that work in the film industry and the winners will get to have their film showcased at BUEI before the end of June.
“Final films will be due on Thursday, May 26, with judging to occur in the first week of June. For more information and details, visit the website.”
