Two Vehicle Collision In Smith’s Parish

[Updated] Around 10.45am this morning [March 28] a two vehicle collision occurred on South Road in Smith’s parish.

A police spokesperson said, “Around 10:45am Monday, 28th March 2022 a reported serious two vehicle collision occurred on South Road, near the junction with Sayle Road, Smith’s parish.

“Details are limited at this time. However, at least one person is believed to be injured. The extent of their injuries is currently unknown.

“A further update is anticipated in due course.”

Update 11.57am: A police spokesperson said, “The collision apparently occurred around 10:35am. Traffic diversions are in effect at Sayle Road and Nantucket Lane, Smith’s parish until further notice, while the scene is processed.

“An update regarding injuries is anticipated at some point later today.”

Update 1.10pm: A police spokesperson said, “Around 10:35am Monday, 28th March 2022, a reported serious two-vehicle collision occurred on South Road in Smith’s parish, near the junction with Sayle Road.

“Bermuda Police Service, Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service as well as ambulance personnel responded to the incident.

“Initial indications were that the collision occurred around 10:45am Monday.

“Information now suggests that a taxi was being driven east on South Road and a private car was being driven in the opposite direction when the vehicles collided. It appears that the car involved was overtaking another vehicle, also headed west, at the time.

“The driver of the car, believed to be a local male resident, was injured. The extent of his injuries remains unknown at this time.

“However, he was transported to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance, conscious and breathing. An update regarding his medical condition is anticipated at some point later today.

“Apparently, no one else was hurt.

“Traffic diversions are currently in effect at Sayle Road and Nantucket Lane in Smith’s parish until further notice, while the scene is being processed.

“Any witnesses to this collision, that have not already come forward, are encouraged to call 211 or the main police number 295-0011 as soon as possible.”

Update 3.25pm: A police spokesperson said, “Traffic diversions are no longer in effect in the South Road, Sayle Road, Nantucket Lane Smith’s parish area.

“The driver injured in this morning’s collision, understood to be a 52-year-old local male, is still receiving treatment at the hospital for his injuries.

“The Bermuda Police Service appreciates the assistance received so far and continues to appeal for any witnesses, that have not yet come forward, to call 211 or 295-0011 as soon as possible.”
