Annual Autism Rocks Socks Day Tomorrow

April 21, 2022

A Bermuda charity has designed a collection of colourful socks for the annual Autism Rocks Socks Day tomorrow [April 22] as part of Autism Awareness Month.

Tomorrow’s Voices have partnered with OnTrack Bermuda – a local clothing and apparel company – to design the socks in three colours, blue, orange, and purple and embroidered with the words ‘Autism, Awareness, Acceptance and Love’.

OnTrack will donate part of the proceeds from the sales to help fund the charity’s various programmes to help those living with Autism.

The socks will be available through Tomorrow’s Voices Sargasso store or Ontrack’s website www.ontrack.com.

Stacy Hill, the Tomorrow’s Voices funding and development officer, said wearing the socks was a practical and fun way to raise awareness of autism on the island.

“This year the charity wanted to bring more awareness to autism, so we partnered with Ontrack, who have sourced a company overseas to produce the designs we came up with,” Ms Hill told Bernews.

“The socks are a great way for the community to show their support for autism beyond April – that’s how they are designed.

“They’re branded to be a conversation starter for people who may not know anything about autism and show them how they can support those on the autism spectrum.”

Tomorrow’s Voice are encouraging schools, companies and the community to wear “crazy, wacky socks” for Autism Rocks Socks Day tomorrow and make a $5 donation to the charity.

Participants can show their support by posting photographs to social media and tagging #autismrockssocks or #tomorrowsvoices.

“All of our programmes are subsidised by 80 per cent,” Ms Hill added. “It’s a very nominal fee for our clients to start here. We also have a bursary for those who cannot find the funds for the nominal fee.

“We are constantly fundraising, organising events and reaching out to donors because, unfortunately, autism is a disability that isn’t going to go away.

“We are here for the challenge to support our individuals.”
