Bermuda Win Eight Carifta Swimming Medals

[Updated] Bermuda’s swimming team is competing in the 2022 Carifta Swimming Championships in Barbados, where they made an excellent showing on the first day to claim eight medals and make multiple appearances in various finals.

Finals

Sam Williamson won the Gold Medal during the 15 – 17 Boys 200 Meter Breaststroke Final clocking the fastest time of 2:25.44.

The 11-12 Girls 50 Meter Backstroke Silver Medal was captured by Violet Smith who clocked the second-fastest time of 33.24.

The 15-17 Boys 4×100 Meter Free Relay team of Sam Williamson, Flynn Watson-Brown, Finn Moseley, and Brandon Adkins won the Bronze Medal clocking a time of 3:38.65.

Imojen Judd finished 6th in the 13-14 Girls 50 Meter Backstroke Final with a time of 32.62, Myeisha Sharrieff clocked the 4th fastest time of 30.93 during the 15-17 Girls 50 Meter Backstroke Final, Taylor White finished 5th clocking 31.74.

Elijah Daley finished 8th in the 15-17 Boys 50 Meter Backstroke Final touching the wall in a time of 29.53, Arabella Newport Derbyshire finished 4th in the 11-12 Girls 100 Meter Butterfly Final with a time of 1:11.75.

 Preliminaries

Sam Williamson advanced to the 15 – 17 Boys 200 Meter Breaststroke final clocking the fastest time of 2:27.17, during the 11-12 Girls 50 Meter Backstroke Violet Smith clocked the fastest time of 33.01 to advance to the final, Arabella Newport Derbyshire also advanced to the final after clocking the 7th fastest time of 35.02.

Imojen Judd advanced to the 13-14 Girls 50 Meter Backstroke final after clocking the 4th fastest a time of 31.97, Marliegh Howes just missed out on the a spot in the final after finishing 4th with a time of 33.27.

Myeisha Sharrieff clocked the 3rd fastest time of 31.01 during the 15-17 Girls 50 Meter Backstroke claiming a spot in the final, Taylor White also advanced to the final after finishing with the 7th fastest time of 31.92, while Bella Howes finished 18th overall with a time of 34.39.

Elijah Daley finished 9th in the 15-17 Boys 50 Meter Backstroke touching the wall in a time of 28.80, Flynn Watson-Brown finished 16th overall with a time of 32.23, and unfortunately Brandon Adkins was disqualified.

Newport Derbyshire advanced to the 11-12 Girls 100 Meter Butterfly final with the 6th fastest time of 1:12.84, while Marleigh Howes finished 9th in the 13-14 Girls 100 Meter Butterfly.

White and Sharrieff both advanced to the 15-17 Girls 100 Meter Butterfly final, White clocked the 6th fastest time of 1:07.43, while Sharrieff finished 8th with a time of 1:08.25.

Daley finished 12th competing in the 15-17 Boys 100 Meter Butterfly clocking a time of 59.86, and the 15-17 Boys 4×100 Meter Free Relay team of Williamson, Watson-Brown, Daley, and Adkins finished with the third fastest time of 3:39.45 advancing to the Final.

Update April 18, 7.30am: Bermuda won five more medals on the second day of action.

The first medal of the day for Bermuda was the gold medal in the 13-14 girls 200 meter freestyle, as Marleigh Howes clocked a winning time of 2:13.40.

Sam Williamson captured another gold medal, this time in the 15-17 boys 400 meter individual medley clocking a winning time of 4:39.87, Elijah Daley finished 4th clocking 4:55.78.

Violet Smith captured the silver medal in the 11-12 girls 100 meter backstroke final touching the wall in a time of 1:11.88, Arabella Newport Derbyshire was 4th clocking 1:15.79.

Myeisha Sharrieff won the 15-17 girls 100 meter backstroke bronze medal clocking a time of 1:08.05, while Taylor White was 4th with a time of 1:08.47.

Brandon Adkins, Sam Williamson, Elijah Daley, and Flynn Watson-Brown captured the 15-17 boys 4×100 meter medley relay bronze medal with a time of 4:04.07.
