‘Round-Up At Register To Support Ukraine’

April 20, 2022

The MarketPlace announced a ’round-up’ programme, with shoppers able to round-up their purchase total to the nearest dollar, with the funds raised to be donated to a charity in Ukraine.

A spokesperson said, “The MarketPlace today announced a round-up to help with the crisis in Ukraine. To help with the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, we encourage shoppers to round-up their purchase total to the nearest dollar.

“Funds raised by shoppers will be delivered directly to Caritas Ukraine in Kiev, supporting its humanitarian mission to bring aid and supplies to the region, thanks to our cooperation with the Diocese of Hamilton in Bermuda.

“The round-up will take place from April 20 through May 4 and will apply to any in-store purchase at any MarketPlace or PriceRite location, including cash, cheque, or credit card purchases.”

Seth Stutzman, President of The MarketPlace, said: “Like so many others, we have been shocked and disheartened by the news that continues to come out of Ukraine. Our hearts go out to the people of Ukraine, as well as everyone in Bermuda who has family there. We are delighted to be able to assist Caritas Ukraine in Kiev.”

I love that MarketPlace is taking it into their own hands to support a charity however there are so many local charities that could have benefitted off of this donation. Ukraine has nothing to do with Bermuda. Can we solve the issues on our own shores before sending our hard earned money to another country?
