Chief Fire Officer Lloyd Burchall Retiring
Chief Fire Officer Lloyd Burchall is retiring after “40 years of distinguished service,” with Assistant Chief Fire Officer Dana Lovell to serve as Acting Fire Chief with immediate effect.”
A Government spokesperson said, “The Ministry of National Security today advised of the retirement of Chief Fire Officer Lloyd Burchall.
“Mr. Burchall was promoted to Chief Fire Officer on May 1st, 2013, succeeding Mr. Vincent Hollinsid. Mr. Burchall indicated that his retirement will be effective immediately.
“Mr. Burchall joined the Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service in February 1982 and, during his more than four decades of service, has held several positions.
“He has served as Firefighter, Leading Firefighter; Sergeant in the Operations and Training Divisions; Lieutenant/Lead Recruit Instructor; and Divisional Officer in Operations.”
Minister of National Security, Michael Weeks, extended his well wishes to Mr. Burchall, saying, “I wish to extend my sincere thanks to Chief Burchall for his 40 years of distinguished service to the people of Bermuda. On behalf of the Ministry of National Security, I wish him all the best in his future endeavours.”
The Acting Head of the Public Service, Cherie Whitter, said, “We are extremely grateful for Mr. Burchall’s dedicated service. His leadership has been invaluable to the men and women who comprise the Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service. For more than 40 years, Mr. Burchall has demonstrated his commitment to safeguarding the island.
“During this period, he accumulated the education, training and experience needed to advance through the ranks, ultimately overseeing efficient and effective emergency services for the people of Bermuda. On behalf of the Public Service Executive, I extend my appreciation to Mr. Burchall and wish him well in his retirement.”
The spokesperson said, “The Ministry of National Security advises that Assistant Chief Fire Officer Dana Lovell will serve as Acting Fire Chief with immediate effect.”
