Celebrating May As ‘Foster Care Month’
The Minister of Social Development and Seniors Tinee Furbert joins the Department of Child and Family Services in celebrating Foster Care Month in May.
Minister Furbert stated, “I am pleased to stand with the Department of Child and Family Services as they appeal to the Bermuda public for support with our foster care system. We have many children who require a foster family. We ask those community members who can assist to come forward and help us in this area.”
“Currently, there are 65 children in foster care and there is still a need for more foster parents. A Department spokesperson stated, “The importance of having community support for these vulnerable young people is critical.
“Our dire need is to have newly approved foster families willing to be on standby to take children in as DCFS is mandated to respond to new referrals as they arise wherein children may be deemed to be in need of care.”
“The Department has been extremely fortunate with the foster parents we have had thus far. We are truly grateful for those who have opened their homes and hearts to foster a child. On Sunday, May 22nd, we will be holding a Foster Parents Appreciation Tea at the Royal Hamilton Amateur Dinghy Club.
“We are sincerely thankful and hope that more individuals open their homes to foster a child.”
