Sailors Begin Optimist World Championships
Two races were completed in a strengthening breeze on the first day of the 2022 Arkas Optimist World Championships in Turkey.
Following the Opening Ceremony at the Bodrum Castle, the competition — which features 276 young sailors from 61 countries across the globe including Bermuda — got underway.
The first of the races were ceremonially started by the Turkish Sailing Federation President Özlem Akdurak and District Governor Of Bodrum Bilgehan Bayar.
Ethan Thompson is third in the Green Fleet after two races and sixth overall to lead the Bermuda contingent with 7 points, Thompson finished 4th in the first race of the day and third in the second race.
Sarah Davis is also competing in the Green Fleet, she currently sits 105th overall with 57 points, this after finishing 29th in the first race and then 27h in the second race.
Miguel Power is in 159th overall with 77 points, he finished the first race in 29th, before closing out with a 48th place finish in the Red Fleet.
Trystan Hocking is holding the 224th position overall with 107 points, Hocking competing in the Red Fleet finished the first race, and then 62nd in the second race.
Sophia Dias is in 252nd with 122 points, Dias is competing in the Blue Fleet finishing 65th in the first race, and then 57th in the second race.
