Osagi Bascome’s No 13 shirt was taped to Bermuda’s dugout throughout their Concacaf Nations League match against Haiti last night in tribute to the national team player, who died in December.

Following his death, tributes were sent from the highest echelon of the football world, with FIFA President Gianni Infantino, Concacaf President Victor Montagliani, and Caribbean Football Union President Randolph Harris all sending messages of condolences, calling him “one of the island’s most talented footballers.”

The former Darlington midfielder was part of the Bermuda squad that made history by qualifying for the Gold Cup in 2019 and started the three group games against Haiti, Costa Rica and Nicaragua.

He also played at the regional level in Spain for Massanassa and had a short spell at Sky Bet Championship side Bristol City.

Bermuda’s opening group B of League B match against Haiti ended in a goalless draw at the Flora Duffy Stadium. They play away games against Guyana on Tuesday and the Dominican Republic four days later before returning home to face Montserrat on June 14.
