Brownies Celebrate Queen’s Platinum Jubilee
The First Devonshire Brownies celebrated the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee by learning more about animals, one of Her Majesty’s “fond interests.”
A spokesperson said, “The First Devonshire Brownies celebrated The Platinum Queens Jubilee by learning more about Animals, one of Her Majesty’s fond interests. They were treated to a Royal tour of the aquarium, led by Head Aquarist, Tricia Pitcher, outfitted with golden crowns and regal sashes.
“The girls range in age from 7 to 11 and represent Harrington Sound, Elliot, Francis Patton, Prospect Primary, West Pembroke, MSA, Warwick Academy and home schools.
“Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth, and her mother became loyal patrons of Girl Guiding in 1952. Queen Elizabeth is supportive of Girl Guiding around the world.
“The highest achievement Girl Guides can reach is the Queen’s Guide Award. Several Bermudian former Guides have this distinguished award.
“The Brownies will make regular donations to help feed the wonderful animals at the aquarium. They will research animals of choice found at the aquarium and incorporate this in their badge work.
“As a result of their tour, some have opted to research careers involving animal care.
“The Apple Donation will be their service project for the fall.
“Parents of girls from 7 to 11 years old who are interested in joining First Devonshire Brownies can contact Brown Owl Bassett at cibassett54@gmail.com for fall membership. Brownies meet at The Lady Asser Hut on the grounds of BHS on Wednesdays at 4:30 to 6 p.m. when school is in session.”
