Video: Whitney Students Promote Awareness
Whitney Institute Middle School students recently engaged in a range of activities designed to promote mental health awareness, including greeting motorists with posters they created showcasing positive messages.
A spokesperson said, “May was Mental Health Awareness Month. Throughout the month, Whitney Institute Middle School students engaged in activities designed to promote mental health awareness.
“A grub day was held where students and staff wore green, which is the color for mental health awareness. School Counselor Kamaria Hinkson organized multiple activities throughout the month of May. Information about coping skills and practice activities was shared for advisory lessons.
“Students created posters with positive messages designed to promote awareness and reduce stigma. Students participated in a rally on May 31, 2022 near Shelly Bay, where they shared the poster messages to passing motorists.
“Mr. Fitzgerald Williams of MASC Bermuda, was invited to speak to all the students in a special assembly about mental health awareness.
“Students received small group guidance lessons where discussions were held about understanding the mental health continuum, ending stigma and normalizing seeking counseling services.
