Premier Burt: Consensus Was A ‘Success’

June 14, 2022

“An unqualified success”, said Premier Burt about his time at Consensus 2022 in Austin, Texas, where he and representatives from the Bermuda Business Development Agency [BDA] and the Bermuda Monetary Authority [BMA] engaged with business leaders to promote Bermuda’s Fintech industry.

A Government spokesperson said, “The Premier & Minister of Finance departed Texas on Saturday evening for London where he, and the Financial Secretary Ms Cheryl Lister, will be joined by the BDA, and representatives from the Association for Bermuda Insurers & Reinsurers [ABIR], and the Association of Bermuda International Companies [ABIC] for meetings with U.K. Government officials including the Department of Treasury to discuss matters regarding Bermuda’s financial services sector.

“The Premier will also hold business development meetings alongside the BDA, and take part in interviews with British media as the Government of Bermuda continues to promote Bermuda’s growing fintech and climate risk finance sectors and Bermuda’s continued leadership in insurance and reinsurance.”

Premier David Burt said: “The purpose of this trip to London is to continue to make connections with our counterparts in the U.K. Government to ensure the stability and growth of Bermuda’s insurance and reinsurance sector.

“It is also an opportunity to highlight the strength and robustness of the Bermuda market as well as our development in fintech, and climate risk finance which continues to gain momentum.”

Delusional. Bitcoin crashed this week yet Burt was promoting the benefits of crypto.
Get back and do the hard work to sort out Bermuda’s critical problems an stop the photo ops. What effect will the large interest rate increases have on refinancing Bermuda’s colossal debt?

“hat effect will the large interest rate increases have on refinancing Bermuda’s colossal debt?”

BINGO! although Premier Burt wont be in power when that roll over happens, maybe that is why he is on sabbatical.

Who on earth in PLP is ready to step in and qualified to do so. Why is there no discussion about this critical issue.

Start with an easy one – “what happens is we cant afford the repayments?” what are the repercussions? How does that affect loyal voters?

  2. watching says:

Keep on pushing on Premier Burt!

    • question says:

Keep on pushing what, exactly? Explain to us how this is supposed to work. Explain why, now that Bitcoin has lost most of its value, this will suddenly become a success after 5 years of failure.

  3. vinny says:

I would rather you got your ass back here and fixed the buses, works and engineering, the trash collection and the schools.

Have you noticed David that the country is in a mess? We have.

    • trufth says:

      Add to that:

      -out of control crime
      -poverty
-seniors suffering and still waiting for what you promised
      -roads a mess
      -drugs
      -homelessness
      -unemployment
      -etc….

Unless you brought a suitcase full of cash with you when you returned, you need to stay here and fix this colossal dumpster fire of an island.

        The truth
CV Jim Woolridge stated in his book some famous words. “Those little white boys don’t mind you being in charge as long as they can tell you what to do.

  4. LOL - the real one says:

“An unqualified success” = taxpayer-funded trip, frequent flyer miles, expensive meals, accommodations & ground transportation, with no new jobs created in Bermuda.

    Crypto is crashing big time.

  5. Unknown800k says:

I’m sure his ego done a Stella job

  6. question says:

Back in the real world, Bitcoin fell in value yesterday by over 9% in one day.
It now trades at 65% below where it was in November.
Hardly a solid base to drive our economic future.
Burt never met a stupid idea he didn’t like.

  7. aceboy says:

Crypto is crashing as he attends Crypto conferences around the world at taxpayer expense. Like Nero fiddling while Rome burned.

  8. comfortably numb says:

Any chance we”ll ever see his expenses reports for his latest boondoggles to Texas and London?
