Lodge, Peart & Furtado Earn Scholarships

The Chubb Charitable Foundation Bermuda announced that Alexis Lodge, Maya Peart and Amber Furtado have all earned scholarships.

A spokesperson said, “The Chubb Charitable Foundation Bermuda is pleased to announce this year’s Robert Clements Scholarship, Bermuda College Education Award, and Bursary recipients.

Alexis Lodge receives Robert Clements Scholarship

“Alexis Lodge, who attended Bermuda High School before completing the two year Saltus Graduate Programme, has been selected as the 2022 Robert Clements Scholar in the award’s twenty-sixth year. Alexis will be attending Queen’s University in the Fall and will pursue a degree in Economics.

“A talented student with exceptional academic success, Alexis has consistently earned high marks, placing her within the top few students in her class. Alexis is an avid sports player, participating in softball, netball, and volleyball while at BHS and Saltus, and earning a spot on the Under 18 National Volleyball team. She is also an accomplished equestrian having trained competitively for jumping and dressage while living in Dominican Republic. Alexis has been actively involved in both Bermuda and the Dominican Republic communities with helping the homeless, assisting the elderly, and organising and participating in beach clean-ups.”

Lori Dunstan, Executive Director, Chubb Charitable Foundation – Bermuda, said, “We are honoured to name Alexis as our 2022 recipient of the Robert Clements Scholarship. Alexis is a brilliant student and athlete, but more importantly, is a young woman with a strong sense of social awareness. We welcome and look forward to having Alexis join the world-class family of Robert Clements scholars.”

The spokesperson said, “Over the past 27 years the Chubb Charitable Foundation – Bermuda, has supported of 34 Bermudians to help them prepare for professional careers in Bermuda’s insurance industry.

“The fully funded four-year scholarship is open to Bermudians studying for an undergraduate or graduate degree in insurance, risk management, actuarial science or other disciplines related to the insurance industry including accounting, law, and economics. The scholarship offers students the opportunity to study for a degree without financial worry as well as employment opportunities during the holidays to provide them with relevant work experience.

Maya Peart Receives Bermuda College Education Award

“Maya Peart, a recent graduate of the Bermuda College’s Arts and Science Programme, has been selected as the 2022 Bermuda College Education Award recipient. Maya is an incoming first year student at HAN University of Applied Sciences in Arnhem, The Netherlands, where she will be pursuing a bachelor’s course in Communication Studies.

“At CedarBridge, Maya was a founding member of the Noire Youth Theatre and participated in the Delta GEMS Programme where she received the Delta GEM’s Bermuda College Scholarship. In 2020, she was selected as a Rotary Exchange student in Brazil. While at Bermuda College, Maya was a member of the Student Government Council and on the 2021 Vice President’s Academic List.”

Samantha Froud, Chief Administration Officer, Chubb Bermuda Operations, and a member of the Bermuda College Education Award selection committee said, “I am pleased to be a part of this award selection process which enables talented recipients such as Maya, to receive the support needed to accomplish her goals. Maya is a great student, and we are assured that she will continue to excel in her academic career.”

The spokesperson said, “The Bermuda College Education Award was launched in 2008 to provide $15,000 a year for two years to the successful Bermuda College graduate to assist them with the continuation of their undergraduate studies overseas. Since inception, the Chubb Charitable Foundation-Bermuda has supported 19 Bermudians to help them prepare for a successful career.

Amber Furtado Receives Bursary Award from Chubb Charitable Foundation – Bermuda

“In addition, we are pleased to offer a two-year academic Bursary Award through the Chubb Charitable Foundation – Bermuda, to Amber Furtado, in recognition of her exceptional talent.

“Amber is a 2022 graduate of the Bermuda College Associates Programme. She will be attending Acadia University this Fall pursuing her Bachelor of Business Administration degree. Whilst at Bermuda College, Amber was President of Phi Theta Kappa Beta Upsilon Chi Chapter, won the Athene Bermuda College scholarship and was on the President’s List.

“Amber is also active in the community as a volunteer with PALS and the Eliza DoLittle Society and is a Senior Company Dancer with the – In Motion School of Dance. Amber is a 2020 graduate of Mount Saint Agnes Academy where she was an honors student.”

Ms. Dunstan said, “We are delighted to be able to support Amber with her continued growth both academically and professionally. We applaud all of her achievements to date.”
