“Introduced in 2020, the aim of the programme is to ensure there is a cadre of suitably trained Bermudians available within the service to contend for senior executive public servant posts as and when they become available.

The training programme consisted of three learning paths:

“1. The Main programme for those demonstrating the ability to complete the training within 12–18 months

“2. The Extended programme for those demonstrating the ability to complete the training in 2 years or more

“3. The Management programme for mastering management fundamentals

“Participants were involved in a variety of development activities beyond course work, including acting opportunities, reassignments, exposure to projects and work shadowing to ensure theories learned are applied.”

During the graduation ceremony, Dr. Binns addressed the participants saying, “Congratulations on successfully completing a long, arduous, but rewarding journey. This Programme was created to identify Public Officers who have the potential to be our future executive leaders and to provide them with the training and experiences to prepare them to serve successfully.

“Each of you have demonstrated that you are now ready for the next level of leadership. Thank you all for your participation in the programme and most of all for your willingness to be considered for greater responsibilities within the public service.”

Minister of Education, Diallo Rabain added, “It’s a pleasure to celebrate the graduates of the Leadership Development Programme. Strong leadership within the public service benefits our entire country. To ensure that effective leadership is cultivated, we must continue to invest in the development of our public officers.

“This programme is an example of Government’s commitment to providing them with the training and support needed so that they can become future leaders in the service. I want to commend all the graduates for the outstanding job that they do each day for the people of Bermuda, and once again congratulate them on this milestone achievement in their careers.”
