Nahki Wells said he was thrilled to “take his chance” after scoring his first goal of the season in Bristol City’s 2-0 win at home to Luton Town in the Sky Bet Championship.
Wells admits he was surprised to be handed his first league start of the campaign by City manager Nigel Pearson and repaid the faith shown in him by netting in the fifth minute.
Speaking to Robins TV, Wells said: “From our excellent start, we gave ourselves every chance to get the three points, but it was a difficult match as we knew they would have their threats.
“Coming in today, I didn’t expect to get the nod, to be honest with you. The gaffer surprised me with that one and told me to go and take my chance.
“I know my chances have been quite limited of late, when I do get a chance, I have got to try and take it, and I think I did a very good job today. Scoring early gave us an opportunity and a good platform to work off.”
