Do You Recall The 40 Thieves Club?
Tony Brannon is seeking memories, photographs and memorabilia from people who experienced Bermuda’s Forty Thieves Club.
Mr. Brannon said, “I’m researching the definitive history of my father Terry Brannon’s legendary 40 Thieves Club in Bermuda — with the ultimate aim of telling the story in a book and, hopefully, on screen, and I need your memories.
“Did you ever see Aretha Franklin, Louis Armstrong [Rosebank], Marvin Gaye, The Temptations, Dionne Warwick, Tom Jones, Cilla Black, Ike & Tina Turner, Neil Diamond — or any of the hundreds of international and Bermudian performers who appeared at the 40?
“Were you there during College Weeks? Did you work at the club? Did you meet one of the stars? Did something hilarious, romantic, outrageous or unforgettable happen there?
“Maybe you were visiting Bermuda on your honeymoon or vacation and one extraordinary night at the 40 has stayed with you for 60 years.
“I want to hear your story. Even better — dig through those old boxes!
“We’re looking for photographs, programmes, menus, membership cards, newspaper advertisements, autographs, tickets, postcards and anything else connected with the Forty Thieves.
“Please tell us approximately what year you were there, who you saw and what you remember. 1962–1988. Twenty-six years. One little nightclub in Bermuda — and an astonishing parade of stars walked through its doors.
“Now it’s time to collect the stories of the people who were there. Were you one of them?”
Anyone with any memories or information that could assist Mr Brennan is asked to email him at tonybrannonbermuda@gmail.com.
