September 7, 2022

Bermuda Tourism Authority, in partnership with the Bermuda Government and the Corporation of Hamilton, is issuing a call to Bermuda’s entertainment community to participate in the City Busking initiative.

A spokesperson said, “The City of Hamilton has maintained an ongoing busking pregame providing local entertainers with opportunities to showcase their talent to locals and visitors in spots around the capital city.

“This year, as part of the Great Sound Entertainment Series, the BTA pledged support to expand the busking programme into September through financial incentives for performance artists.

“Singers, musicians, and performance artists have been invited to submit applications for weekly performance slots in various locations throughout the City of Hamilton. The selected performers will be issued a stipend each week with the potential to earn even more through gratuities.”

The City’s Director of Marketing and Communications, Jessica Astwood, said, “The City is delighted to partner with the BTA on this worthy initiative to support our local artists. Every year the City of Hamilton hosts a busker programme, which aims to promote and engage local artists by ‘taking the arts to the people’, on the streets of Hamilton.”

She continued: “The busker program presents a unique opportunity for Bermudian artists to be seen and heard live in public space, to receive funds from the public for their performance or works, and to promote themselves and their artistic works right in the centre of the city.”

“Support for Bermuda’s entertainment ecosystem is a vital conduit for the development of the island’s tourism product,” said Tashae Thompson, VP of Experiences, Bermuda Tourism Authority.

“That’s why we are delighted to contribute to initiatives that serve multiple aims – nurturing the island’s entertainment sector, and providing memorable, serendipitous experiences for our visitors. Bermuda should be encouraged by exciting initiatives such as this, brokered through collaborative efforts between the government, municipality, and our island’s destination marketing organisation.”

The spokesperson said, “Interested local entertainers whose immigration status permits them to perform busking work for pay, should apply here.”
