Truck ‘Entangled In Cables,’ 350 Lose Power
[Updated] Approximately 350 residents lost power after a “tractor trailer became entangled in telecommunications cable” on South Road in Devonshire today [Sept 16] and a BELCO crew is on scene working to restore power.
BELCO tweeted the photo below, saying: “Shortly after 11am a tractor trailer became entangled in telecommunications cables on South Rd.
“As a result, a utility pole was broken causing loss of power to approximately 350 residents. Our crew has been dispatched and is working to restore power.”
Update 1.00pm: A spokesperson said, “Bermuda Electric Light Company Limited [BELCO] today advised that work is currently taking place to repair a damaged utility pole following an accident on South Road, Devonshire today and motorists can expect delays.”
Shelly Leman, Managing Director of Transmission, Distribution and Retail said: “First and foremost our top priority in these situations is to ensure the safety of members of the public. It is unfortunate that a commercial vehicle was in an accident which resulted in loss of electricity to our customers.
“Our crews are working as quickly and as safely as possible to replace the broken pole and to reinstate all electricity lines. Motorists can expect delays on South Road until these works are completed and are advised to take an alternative route while repairs take place.”
