Butterfield Residency For Arts Engagement

Butterfield have made a three-year commitment to support the Bermuda Festival’s arts education programming, and this season the Bermuda Festival is starting an education-based residency program.

A spokesperson said, “The Butterfield Residency for Arts Engagement is a three-year commitment to help The Bermuda Festival enrich their outreach programme and expand arts education island wide.

“Butterfield recognizes the indelible and positive impact of arts involvement for the community and youth, and they have partnered with The Festival to fund a 4-day residency programme for the next three Bermuda Festival Seasons.

“This program will feature a diverse range of artists which will alternate between theatre, music, and dance companies. In collaboration with Butterfield, The Bermuda Festival will strive to bring acts to Bermuda that are engaging for people of all ages and our underserved communities.

“The 2022/2023 Butterfield Artists in Residence is The Actors From The London Stage! The touring group have extensive experience both as performers and workshops facilitators. They will be performing Macbeth at the Ruth Seaton James Centre for the Performing Arts on November 18th and 19th.

“For this year’s Butterfield Residency, Actors From The London Stage will be engaged in seven school and public workshops which include:

  • Sonnet Slam: Select Bermudians have applied and have been chosen to receive individual coaching from one of our guest actors. They will work together and perform at a Sonnet Slam at BSOA at City Hall on Thursday November 17th from 6-7pm. The Sonnet slam event is free and open to the public.
  • Shakespeare at Westgate: Actors from the London Stage will conduct a communication workshop at Westgate for incarcerated individuals as a part of their Shakespeare in Prisons programme.
  • Class Workshops: Using their expertise as actors and coaches, the actors will be working in high schools across the island to create original workshops catered to the class’s curriculum.
  • Student Performance: Actors from the London Stage will perform a student only performance of Macbeth that is free for middle and high school students which will followed by a question-and-answer session.
