New Flora Duffy Tote Bag To Be Released
Joshua Bate Trading is getting set to release a limited edition Flora Duffy tote bag, with net proceeds from the sale of the totes to be donated to The Flora Fund, which helps to support young Bermudian athletes.
Ms. Duffy’s team worked with Bermudian graphic designer Makayla Paul to create the tote’s graphic design, with the totes themselves produced by American company Sea Bags.
A spokesperson said, “As the management team of Joshua Bate Trading Bermuda Ltd. was strategizing on how to celebrate their 30th anniversary in 2022, they decided to not only plan promotions and activities to show appreciation for their customers and staff, but they also wanted to come up with events to give back to Bermuda as we approach the one year anniversary of 2021′s Flora Duffy Day on October 18, marking the most exciting of their charitable events.
“Flora Duffy made all Bermudians proud when she became Bermuda’s first gold medal Olympian in the 2020 games. Obviously her athleticism is impressive while her desire to support aspiring Bermudian athletes to achieve excellence by establishing The Flora Fund is inspirational. The Bate team decided that supporting Flora’s cause would be a perfect way to help the community.
“Because Bate Trading is the exclusive distributor in Bermuda for Sea Bags, a US company which handcrafts totes, bags, and accessories from recycled sails, they decided to collaborate. Along with Flora’s team, a colourful and sustainable tote bag was designed to commemorate Flora’s historic win, which has been produced in a limited quantity.
“Only 225 Flora Duffy totes have been constructed. 50 come with a sewn-in patch of a quote by Flora, which she personally signed. The signed bags will sell for $350 and the rest of the bags will sell for $300. The net proceeds of all sales will be donated to The Flora Fund.”
Joshua Bate, President of Bate Trading, said, “We are grateful for Bermuda’s support of our business for 30 years, and we are proud to help Flora in her effort to ‘positively impact the youth of Bermuda’.”
The spokesperson said, “Although pre-orders can be made at BATE’S at 7 Marsh Lane in Devonshire through Saturday, the totes only become available for purchase on Tuesday when the doors open at 9.00am. BATE’S will be closed on Sunday [as usual] and Monday for a 30th anniversary staff celebration event. Call 236-7866 for more details.”
