MP Zane DeSilva Charged In Magistrates Court

October 26, 2022

MP Zane DeSilva was charged today [Oct 26] in Magistrate’s Court with allegedly violating the Proceeds of Crime act.

The charge alleged that between April 2018 and August 2018, he “entered into or became concerned in an arrangement, which you knew or suspected facilitated the use or control of criminal property by or on behalf of William Anthony Blakey,” which is contrary to the Proceeds of Crime Act 1997.

Mr DeSilva was not required to enter a plea and the matter will resume in the February arraignments session in the Supreme Court.

The allegation relates to the issue with the Savvy loan deal and the Court also heard that the Department of Public Prosecutions has started extradition proceedings to bring Mr. Blakey, who resides in the USA, to Bermuda to face a charge.
