Photos: Bermuda Defeats Gibraltar In Rugby

The Bermuda rugby team made an excellent showing to defeat Gibraltar 35 – 16 in World Rugby Classic action this weekend.

Robbie Reid gave Bermuda a 3 – 0 lead when he converted a penalty. Benn Morris leveled the score at 3 – 3 when he hit a penalty for Gibraltar; Morris kicked another penalty to give Gibraltar the lead at 6 – 3. Dave Lunn then drew Bermuda level when he kicked a penalty to make the score 6 – 6.

With Bermuda down to 14 men, they took the lead when Alex Brown went over for a try on the stroke of halftime and Lunn added the conversion for Bermuda to lead 13 – 6 at the break.


Early in the second half, Morris kicked a penalty for Gibraltar to shorten the Bermuda lead to 13 – 9, but Reid – who spent 10 minutes in the sin bin in the first half – returned and kicked another penalty to put Bermuda ahead 16 – 9. Reid then went over for a try in the corner to extend Bermuda’s lead to 21 – 6.

Reid then added the conversion to make it 23 – 9. Substitute Jahniko Francis added to Bermuda’s total when he scored a try, however the conversion was missed, leaving the score 28 – 9.

Gibraltar got a try from Jack Eccleston, and when Morris added the conversion it made the score 28 – 16. Bermuda answered with a try from Mike Kelley and a conversion from Lunn to make the final score 35 – 16.
