United States Consul General Karen Grissette welcomed education partners, stakeholders, and special guests to her residence to develop education partnerships in support of the Consulate’s upcoming Study with ‘US’ campaign Wednesday evening.

A spokesperson said, “To reinforce the longstanding educational exchange ties between the United States and Bermuda, the U.S. Consulate built support for the upcoming launch of its Study with ‘US’ [#StudyWithUS] campaign in Bermuda. The video series will spotlight Bermudian students currently attending U.S. colleges and universities, as well as Bermudian alumni of U.S. colleges and universities. The Consul General showed a sneak preview of the video series, which received enthusiastically positive reviews by the partners.

“The campaign will showcase students and alumni eager to share the impact on their lives from studying in the United States. Video participants also explain the scholarships and programs that covered their studies with scholarships, or made their education more affordable. To join the campaign and share the impact of your own U.S. educational experience, contact the U.S. Consulate at [Haleycs@state.gov].

“U.S. Consul General Grissette was joined by President of the Bermuda College Dr. Duranda Green, as well as Ministry of Education and Bermuda Government representatives, Heads and Representatives of Bermuda’s schools, and corporate and foundation scholarship sponsors.

“Also in attendance was special guest, Senior Vice Chancellor of Troy University in Alabama, Sohail Agboatwala. Senior Vice Chancellor Agboatwala visited Bermuda to further connections between Troy University and the U.S. Consulate, Bermuda College, the international business sector, and education stakeholders to develop pathways for more Bermudian students to attend Troy University.”

“Troy University is committed to providing higher education opportunities for international students,” said Mr. Agboatwala. “We offer a wide range of programs for a total price of about $25,000 per year, which includes tuition, housing, meals, and insurance. Scholarships are available for all Bermudian students seeking to undertake a four-year program after graduating high school or who are transitioning from the Bermuda College to complete a bachelor’s degree program. This means Bermudians can receive the equivalent of our in-state tuition rate. My team is available to host virtual or in-person counseling sessions and campus tours for parents and students.”

More international students choose to study in the U.S. than in any other country. U.S. Consul General Grissette shared, “With over 4,500 accredited institutions of higher education, the United States has a college or university right for every student.” She added, “There is a range of affordable study options and scholarships that can be sourced in Bermuda or directly through U.S. institutions. For example, Columbia College in New York City will provide a full scholarship for a Bermudian student who is accepted and has demonstrated financial need. More information about this scholarship can be found on the Consulate’s website.”

The spokesperson said, “#StudyWithUS will provide information on pathways to pursue higher education through EducationUSA, a U.S. Department of State network of over 430 international student advising centers in more than 175 countries and territories. The network promotes U.S. higher education to students around the world, offers information about opportunities to study at accredited postsecondary institutions in the United States, and provides services to students and their families focused on topics including the admissions process, standardized testing requirements and how to finance a U.S. education. The U.S. Consulate can provide information about the student visa process and preparing for departure to the United States.
