BEDC: Shop Local Online On Cyber Monday
Bermuda residents are invited to shop online with local businesses on Cyber Monday which will be held on November 28th.
A spokesperson said, “Cyber Monday was first launched in 2010 during Global Entrepreneurship Week as an online initiative aimed at encouraging residents to “Shop Local.” Its goal remains to support the development of local e-commerce business in Bermuda.
“Cyber Monday 2022, slated for November 28th, is spearheaded by the Bermuda Economic Development Corporation [BEDC]. The initiative’s main objective is to see as many e-tailers [online retail vendors] offer online deals to shoppers. All participating consumers will have to do is shop on those e-tailers’ sites.”
Jamillah Lodge, Director of Communication & Development said, “We see it as another opportunity for us all to utilise technology in a way that allows it to power the local economy. If Global Entrepreneurship Week has shown us anything, it’s that entrepreneurs continue to stir creativity and to inspire innovation in many ways.”
She continues: “This year we anticipate and encourage the participation of a larger-than-ever group of vendors and a wider range of offerings, on both the products and services sides. I’d like to encourage both the vendors and the community to partake of this opportunity to take advantage of exclusive deals and to support each other as the Island looks beyond the pandemic. Buy, sell, tag and post – and who knows what you might win!”
The spokesperson said, “All participating consumers must do is #ChooseBermuda online on November 28th for a chance to win great prizes. For a list of participating eTailers you can visit the BEDC’s Local E-commerce Business Directory.
“Shoppers will be entered into a draw to win one of three $250 vouchers to be used at any of our participating eTailers. To be entered into the draw, shoppers are asked to upload their receipts or payment confirmations to our online form. All receipts will be entered into the draw and winners will be announced on Monday, December 5th. Only transactions dated November 28th will be considered for the draw.
“Participating retail and service-based businesses will be required to accept orders online or accept orders online with the ability to provide full online payments. They will also have to offer one or more discount[s] or promotion[s] on Cyber Monday. Additionally, they must use social media tools such as Facebook and Instagram to direct vendors to their sites prior to Cyber Monday, using the #BuyBermuda hashtag in their promotions.
“Buyers are invited to visit www.eMonday.bm for a list of participating e-tailers and to find out about the products that are subject to Cyber Monday deals. Vendors are encouraged to register, starting today, the online promotions that they have on www.eMonday.bm.”

Is this the same BEDC that got into bed with the “financially challenged” vertical farming company? A good example of why Government and its quangos should not compete against the private sector, using private sector taxes. They do not have the expertise, nor should they be involved. Minister Hayward is a poster child as to why.
