A spokesperson said, “Dr. Gina Tucker, upon being reminded of the significance of the year 2022 by her classmate, Andrea Hassell, was compelled to pull together a team of their classmates including Chrystal Bean, O’Shandah Ming, Kimberly Creighton, Terri-lyn Talbot and Claudelle Whitter Richardson to form the C’82 Berkeley Institute Reunion Committee. The team was assisted by their C’82 classmates, Mark Wade and Mark Simons.

“As a result of donations made by classmates, the committee is pleased to donate $1500 to Jezhari Talbot, a Berkeley Institute Class of 2022 student who demonstrated leadership and advocacy for justice throughout her time as a student of The Berkeley.
Dr. Tucker said, “We are thankful to all those classmates who contributed to the funds raised to assist one of our young fellow Berkeley-ites, Jezhari Talbot, who is currently enrolled at the University of Reading. Jezhari’s resume is already quite impressive. Throughout her time as a Berkeley student, she was a prefect and received numerous awards including the Spirit Award, the Leadership Award, the Citizenship Award and the Principal’s Award. She also served as Vice President of the Student Council. Her community involvement includes serving as a gymnastics coach at the Bermuda Gymnastics Association, chair of the Jr. Road Safety Council, and as a member of the Evangelical Church’s Edge Youth Group. She is also the co-founder of a local charity, Caring for Caregivers, and qualified for the 2019 Carifta Games. In just her short life, Jezhari has demonstrated the kind of leadership and advocacy that will positively impact on our community in the future. We look forward to Jezhari continuing to make Bermuda proud.”
In receiving this award, Jezhari said, “Being awarded this scholarship will mean a lot to not only me but my family as there are two of us in university this year. From a young age it was instilled in me that if I worked hard, I could be awarded scholarships. After thirteen years of an exemplary academic career, this award is further proof that hard work pays off. I am honoured that my overall contribution to the Berkeley Institute has been recognized. I plan to study finance and a language and would love to work in the Bermuda business sector as well as be an entrepreneur. Receiving this award will assist in furthering my education abroad which enables me to have new experiences, meet new people, be exposed to a wider range of cultures, and to network. I am studying what I am truly passionate about, and this award is helping to bring me closer to achieving my life’s goals and purpose.
“Being the recipient of the Berkeley Institute Class of 1982’s award on the anniversary of their 40th year has inspired me to lead the class of 2022 to do the same 40 years from now. Respice Finem and thank you to the Class of 1982.”
“The Reunion Committee met weekly for several months organizing the weekend of events including the “Reunited” Happy Hour held at the PHC Club on the Friday evening, the “Remember When” BBQ Buffet and Dance party held at the Ocean View Golf Club on the Saturday evening, the Praise and Worship Service at Shekinah and, closed out the weekend with the “It’s a Family Affair” Picnic at Clearwater Beach. Over 60 classmates participated in the weekend activities. Sponsors of the weekend’s events included Nikkibeezz Design & Events, PHC, Trini Spice, Scoops, Rubis Warwick Gas Station, Bermuda S.T.E.A.M. Foundation, Dr. Wendy Woods, Dunkley’s [Paul Spring] and EduCoach.
“A special highlight of the weekend was a Surprise Presentation performed by some of the classmates. Former Deputy Principal, Mr. Robert K. Horton, was in attendance and was especially humored by Puisne Judge Juan Wolfe’s depiction of him during the Presentation which also had all in attendance join in to sing the school song.
Dr. Tucker said, “We are extremely pleased by the number of our classmates who came out to participate in the C’82 Reunion Weekend. This was the first C’82 reunion held in 30 years. Classmates paid homage to both fellow classmates and teachers who have passed on and extended greetings to those currently living overseas. They shared pictures and reminisced about their good ole high school days as cheerleaders, track stars and enjoying lunch purchased at the infamous Berkeley Tuck Shop.
“On behalf of the Class of 1982, we extend heartfelt congratulations to Jezhari and wish her continued success in her future endeavors. We also take the opportunity to wish the current leadership and staff of our beloved Alma Mater, The Berkeley Institute, all the best. And to our classmates we say to always Keep the End in View.” Respice Finem
