BTA Launches New Digital Platform ‘BTA+’
The Bermuda Tourism Authority [BTA] is launching BTA+, a “digital learning management platform that delivers industry-related training and educational lessons online. ”
A spokesperson said, “The goal of the digital hub is to provide tourism/hospitality education and training in one location. BTA+ is the first learning platform of its kind for Bermuda’s tourism and hospitality industry. Developed as a bespoke learning tool, BTA+ will aid individuals and businesses in their mission to provide consistency in customer service experiences for visitors and residents alike. This resource contains useful industry-related tools, guides, training, videos, tourism-related assistance and so much more.
“Over the last few years, work-life culture has evolved and as an organisation, we have responded by supporting our stakeholders with relevant, easily accessible education and training modules that fits the new paradigm,” said Jakai Franks, BTA VP of Operations. “This platform will provide engaging, interactive, and informative courses that will assist in developing a knowledgeable workforce.”
Davida O’Brien, Tourism Standards and Training Manager, stated, “The BTA remains committed to raising the standard of our tourism product and we must be persistent in leading in several key areas, including attracting potential talent to the industry, producing well-rounded ambassadors of Bermuda and developing capabilities through career development. The BTA’s Tourism Standards and Training team is committed to the continued success of industry learners by providing the resources, industry insights and accreditations that will help propel one’s hospitality and tourism career forward.”
A spokesperson added, “Building on the core principles from the National Tourism Plan 2019-2026, the BTA understands the importance of succeeding in a more competitive and fast-moving world. BTA+ seeks to dive deeper into how we attract, service and delight our visitors by elevating tourism products and services.

This is all fine to cater to visitors when they are here, but why is the BTA now delving into training? The problem is the BTA needs to have the same sort of learning to bring the visitors here. They are presently woefully inadequate at their job, and clearly the Minister is not doing his job either to ensure the BTA is doing its job. Total waste of taxpayers $25+ million.
The BTA is doing the best job it can in the circumstances. it is no longer the independent body it once was, able to act in the best interests of Bermuda no matter the Government policy of the time.
Now the BTA must take direction from the Minister, which means it must act in a way consistent with the policy of the PLP Government. We have see what happens when the Chief Executive Officer of the Bermuda Tourism Authority disagrees with the Minister. The Chief Executive Officer loses his or her job every time.
100% correct.
So much promise squandered by the PLP. Sadly, it’s a familiar story.
More money wasted. Training is best done by the people actually in the industry, not by government know-nothings.
“Government Know-Nothings” is the name of my punk Pet Shops Boys tribute band.
I’ve seen them. I’m a big fan.
BTA+
HAHAHA.
A “+” or “Plus” is added to something when Marketing has no ideas. Examples:
Apple News+
Apple TV+
Disney+
ESPN+
Google+
Ensure Plus
Walmart Plus
“That’s the biggest problem with [this type of name],” says Laurel Sutton, cofounder of brand-naming agency Catchword. “It doesn’t tell you anything at all. It doesn’t tell you what you’re getting; it doesn’t say why it’s different. It’s just adding a superlative on the end—like saying ‘ultra’ or ‘supreme’ or ‘better.’ ”
