New Head Of School Starts At Somersfield
Somersfield Academy welcomed their new head of school, Riki Teteina, who will start his tenure with the school effective today [Feb 1].
A spokesperson said, “An experienced school leader, Mr. Teteina succeeds Mrs. Janice Outerbridge and will assume responsibilities effective today.
“Mr. Teteina possesses a thorough knowledge and broad perspective of educational developments, particularly about international education and an inquiry-based approach to teaching and learning. Somersfield Academy comes after a myriad of experiences in school leadership positions in New Zealand, London, The Philippines, and Thailand.”
“It is my plan to make sure that Somersfield holds true to its values of inspiring socially conscious learners,” says Mr. Teteina. “I’m excited to be stepping into an institution that already offers this through a unique formula of Montessori and International Baccalaureate curricula.”
“What sets Somersfield Academy apart is its commitment to building a community of critical thinkers that are well-rounded, culturally aware with an internationally oriented education. I am looking forward to getting to know the diverse student cultures that make up the school and finding out how Somersfield Academy best serves the wider Bermuda community.”
The spokesperson said, “With extensive international experience, Mr. Teteina also brings to Somersfield significant IB expertise with excellent knowledge of the IB continuum programmes PYP, MYP, and Diploma. He is committed to developing schools as centres of community and to fostering partnerships between teachers, parents, and students.”

He has a strong vision for continuing and building on the excellent work the school does.”
“We thank Mrs. Janice Outerbridge for all her contributions as she stepped into the role of Interim Head of School,” says Dennis Fagundo, Chair of the Somersfield Board of Directors. “Since September Mrs. Outerbridge has ensured the school weathered the storm of COVID, sought peace and harmony throughout the school community, and kept the ship sailing in alignment with our strategy.”
