Saltus House Match Events: A Week of Giving
On Monday [Feb 20], Saltus kicked off its annual ‘Saltus House Match: A Week of Giving,’ which is described as “a fun way to get everyone in our Saltus and broader community involved with our week of giving to raise money for the 2022-23 Saltus Fund.”
A spokesperson said, “This cricket themed giving week highlights two of Saltus’ long-term employees who are also Bermuda cricketers of much esteem, Lionel Cann, and Olin Jones. We also are introducing this year, two Saltus Alumni, Allen Richardson ’75 and Jonte Smith ’12 who are also highly regarded cricketers. They are each a captain of a School House [Butterfield, Darrell, Saltus and Watlington] and will be encouraging enthusiasm, support, and most importantly School Spirit! Be sure to follow along on Instagram and Facebook pages as Marcus ‘Zebra’ Smith ’14 shares fun and informative videos about House Match!
“As the excitement of the week builds and the fun activities are underway, it is important to remember that this week of giving is to help families both in the Saltus community and those who want to join our community. Saltus wants to ensure that talented students throughout Bermuda are given the opportunity to attend.
“The Saltus Fund provides the monies necessary to stay true to our mission of enriching our School by providing access to financial aid to 14% of our students, as well as continuing to support and provide innovations in the variety of academic, performing arts and athletic programmes available. The Saltus Fund also supports faculty with classroom resources, professional development opportunities, technology and so much more. In short, the Saltus Fund makes up the difference between tuition and the true cost of a Saltus education.”
“This week also allows our community [both current students and alumni] to show their School Spirit. “School Spirit is so important for our students because it creates a sense of belonging, builds connections, and enables our students to feel part of something bigger than themselves. All while creating happiness, positivity, and pride in their school,” states Denise McAdoo, Director of Advancement.
The spokesperson said, “Friday, 24th February promises to be an exceptionally fun day with an ‘All House’ cheer squad for morning drop off and the week will conclude with a House “bowl off” that will be held at 12:30 p.m. on the cricket pitch and the event will be live-streamed! There will also be an Upper Primary float parade, face painting, Year 6 student vs. staff netball game, and a secondary school student vs. staff volleyball match!
“The House with the highest Saltus Fund participation at the end of the week will have a House Day on the first Friday after our Holiday break. That house’s flag will also be flown that day and if students wish to participate in grub day they have to wear the winning House Colour. To make your gift visit our Giving page.”
