Habitat For Humanity Fundraiser Launch Held
The official launch of the fundraising drive for the latest big project by Habitat for Humanity of Bermuda was recently held.
A spokesperson said, “Bacardi hosted the official launch of the fundraising drive for the latest big project by Habitat for Humanity of Bermuda. The event was by invitation, and guests were treated to cocktails and drinks provided by Bacardi and delicious canapes plus a whole host of raffle prizes including original art, jewelry and spa days.
“The funds raised throughout the next few months are destined for the creation of a purpose designed residential treatment facility which will be located in the former church Rectory which was donated by the Anglican Church of Bermuda, and will be restored by Habitat for Humanity.
“The historic building, which is beautiful but derelict, sits on a gorgeous property just east of Somerset Bridge. The project is a partnership between the Anglican Church, Habitat for Humanity and the Bermuda Hospitals Board who will run the facility. The objective of the project is to ultimately move all of the patients currently in MWI out of the antiquated institutional setting into community based, smaller, more therapeutic homelike settings. Sheelagh Cooper announced that while the project is expected to cost between $500,000 and $600,000, the habitat ReStore has already provided an initial grant of $200,000.
“This launch event brought out many corporate partners and people in the community who are interested in seeing this important project come to fruition in Bermuda. There will be more events planned to raise funds over the next few months. For more information on this project and upcoming events go to habitat.bm.”
