Robin Horsfield To Compete On Home Soil

March 12, 2023

Bermuda’s reigning national mountain bike champion, Robin Horsfield, will return to the island to compete in the 2023 National Championships on March 26th.

Horsfield has expressed excitement about the race. This year’s championship will be held at Southlands. Horsfield was one of the original architects of trail additions at Southlands as a young teen resident on the island.

This will be Horsfield’s first mountain bike race of 2023 as he is currently at university in Guelph, Ontario training on a combination of the indoor trainer, the gym, and cross country skis.

A spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Bicycle Association has secured funds for Horsfield to open his ‘main’ competitive season at the Pan American Championships in Brazil in late April. This will be Horsfield’s first entry onto the world scene since his World Cup appearances in France and Andorra in 2019 and his third place finish at the Caribbean Championships in the Dominican Republic later that year.

‘Horsfield is currently ranked #2 in the province of Ontario. This year he will shift his focus towards Canada’s national level series, the Canada Cup. Canada provides a strong development path as the national events include riders who have won world championships and world cups as well as numerous other world-ranked riders. Two of Horsfield’s teammates from Hardwood Next Wave just finished first and second place at the world cyclocross championships in Belgium [Ava and Bella Holmgren].

“The national men’s mountain bike title will be up for grabs at 10:00 a.m. on the 26th. Junior level riders and women compete in their national championship at 9 a.m. The event is sponsored by Winner’s Edge Bicycles.”
