Photos: Gombey Troupes Gather For Unity
“It is about unity….tonight we dance as one culture,” a Gombey leader said as all the island’s troupes gathered for the ‘Gombey Unity’ event, making their way through Hamilton as they celebrated unity and a Bermudian tradition that has stood the test of time for centuries.
Outside of pre-planned events like Bermuda Day and the Gombey Festival, the troupes generally come out individually; so the mass gathering last night on the streets was an iconic moment, resulting in a large crowd following them as the island’s troupes united as one.
