Three Incidents, Three People Arrested

Police officers arrested three people this weekend, one for possession of a meat cleaver, another person was arrested following a glass door being smashed at business in Hamilton, and another person was arrested for “taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent following a burglary,” with the suspect crashing into a police car while attempting to flee the scene.

Bladed Article Arrest

A police spokesperson said, “Shortly after 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 5th, 2023, police received information that a male was seen at the Bus Terminal in the City of Hamilton with what appeared to be a large bladed item in his possession.

“Officers immediately responded. However, upon arrival at the bus terminal, they were informed the subject had boarded a bus bound for Dockyard via Middle Road.

“Officers located the bus and travelled safely behind it until a person fitting the description of the subject disembarked in the vicinity of the Bermuda Institute.

“Officers approached the subject, a 32-year-old Warwick male and informed him that he would be searched under section 315F of the criminal code.

“During the search officers recovered a meat cleaver from the waistband of the subject’s trousers. He was arrested for possession of a bladed article and conveyed to the Hamilton Police Station without incident.

Car Recovered

“Around 4:40 p.m. on Saturday 4th March 2023, Police were alerted by a member of the public that a blue Kia Picanto motorcar, which was reportedly taken without the owner’s consent following a burglary at a Hamilton Parish sometime between Thursday, February 28th and Saturday March 4th, 2023, was seen in the area of Crawl Point Lane West, Hamilton Parish.

“Upon police arrival at that location, a male driving the suspect vehicle attempted to flee the scene but struck the front bumper of the police car, resulting in minor damage to both cars. The driver of the suspect vehicle was subsequently arrested and charged for burglary and taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent.

Burglary

“Around 2:00 a.m. on Monday, March 6th, 2023, police received a report of suspicious noises coming from above La Trattoria Restaurant in the Washington Mall. The caller informed police a male had just smashed in the glass door to “Sidekicks” sports shop.

“Upon realising he was being watched, the male fled the scene by running up Washington lane towards City Hall.

“Responding officers observed a motor car driven by a male fitting the description of the suspect, exiting the rear of City Hall. They approached the vehicle causing it to come to a stop.

“The officers conducted a search of the vehicle and recovered a crow bar, a pair of bolt cutters and a mask on the front passenger seat.

“Officers seized the items and arrested and cautioned the driver for the offence of going equipped.

“Further enquiries revealed the vehicle driven by the suspect was unlicensed and uninsured. The vehicle was subsequently impounded and the subject transported to the Hamilton Police Station where he was detained.

“Investigations into all three matters remain ongoing. Anyone with information on any of them is asked to call 211 or, the main police number 295-0011.     Caught red-handed breaking into a business and was given a caution lmao. This is why there’s no hope for bermuda, because there’s no punishment even for the most basic crimes so why would they stop and not increase
