Dr Barbara Ball Scholarship Opened To Students

April 25, 2023

“The Ministry wishes all applicants every success as they continue their studies and encourages all eligible students to apply by the deadline,” said Minister of Health Kim Wilson, as the Ministry of Health opened applications on Monday for the prestigious Dr Barbara Ball Public Health Scholarship.

A Government spokesperson said, “The scholarship is named in honour of Bermudian Dr Barbara Ball, a renowned public health physician who dedicated her life to improving the lives of the downtrodden.

“This subsidy is designed for individuals passionate about making a difference in Bermuda’s public health field.

“Applicants must meet all eligibility requirements, including a minimum GPA of 3.0 [UK 2:2, IB 30] and a demonstration of financial need. To see the full criteria, go to www.gov.bm/barbara-ball-scholarship.

“Dr Ball, the first Bermudian woman to practice medicine in Bermuda, ardently advocated for people’s rights. She was born in Bermuda in 1924 and earned her medical degree from Liverpool University Medical School in 1949.

“After a brief stint in the UK, she returned to Bermuda in 1954 to dedicate herself to the welfare of the underprivileged.”

Minister Wilson added: “The Government of Bermuda is proud to offer scholarships to exceptional students pursuing careers in healthcare.

“Whether providing care to patients in a hospital setting or working in public health to improve the health outcomes of entire populations, healthcare professionals can make a real difference in people’s lives.

“As the population ages and medical technology advances, the demand for healthcare professionals will only increase. Furthermore, many healthcare jobs offer competitive salaries and benefits, making it a financially attractive field.”

The spokesperson said, “The deadline for applications is 22 May 2023. To apply go to the Bermuda Scholarships website at www.bermudascholarships.com.”

Why bother? If the past is any indication of the future we all know that if is a gov issued scholarship or award we all know what the qualifications are and who will get them. The rest is all fluff.
