Habitat For Humanity Private Island Fundraiser

April 24, 2023

Habitat for Humanity will be hosting a fundraising event which starts with a boat ride to a private island, where guests will dance, enjoy food and wines from four parts of the world, “all while trying their luck at the tables. ”

A spokesperson said, “As part of the quest for funds to support its next large project, Habitat for Humanity has a big surprise in store for partygoers at their next fundraising event.

“The event is called ‘Vegas in the Vaults’. The adventure starts with a boat ride to a private Island, where guests will dance the night away, while they enjoy food and wines from four parts of the world, all while trying their luck at the tables. The venue is a well-kept secret, but the organizers are hinting that it involves underground vaults.

“Proceeds of the event go to support the renovations to the former St James Rectory in Somerset to become a purpose designed Residential Treatment Centre for long-term psychiatric patients currently housed in the Mid Atlantic Wellness Institute [MWI].

“The ultimate goal of the program is to empty out MWI and move Bermuda into the 21st century in terms of psychiatric care, with smaller, more therapeutic residential treatment homes.

“The project is expected to cost between $500,000 and $600,000, but Habitat because of their partnership with local suppliers, and the use of lots of volunteers, expect to keep costs to a minimum, and are striving for another under-budget project as they achieved with the recently completed Transformational Living Centre.

“The Vegas in the Vaults will be held on Saturday, May 20, and to purchase some of the remaining tickets, go to www.habitat.bm/events-news to register. Tickets are $500 and include boat transportation, a cocktail reception with entertainment by Jesse Seymour, a host bar, casino table games, dancing, and foods and wines from around the world.”
