Video: Police Identify Victim As Marco Warren

May 15, 2023

[Updated] The Bermuda Police Service [BPS] held a press conference this afternoon [May 15] where they identified the victim of the fatal hit and run as Marco Warren, who was one of the island’s most talented footballers.

Mr Warren — who recently won the Bermuda Football Association’s MVP award — was found in an unresponsive state on North Shore Road in Hamilton Parish, at about 3.15am, and sadly he succumbed to his injuries.

Speaking at a press conference today, Inspector Kenten Trott said, “The Bermuda Police Service extend our condolences to the family of Mr Warren and to the Bermuda football community with which Mr Warren was intricately involved, as a player and programme coordinator with the Ministry of Youth and Sport.

“As a new father, Mr Warren would no doubt have been planning for a bright and successful future with his young son, just as his own father did with him, sadly that will now be a dream unfulfilled.”

Inspector Trott said they are “following specific lines of inquiry in relation to this matter, including the review of CCTV footage.”

Anyone with information is asked contact Police Constable Deforest Evans on 717-0860, and you can also call the main police number, 295-0011, or the independent and confidential Crime Stoppers number 800-8477.

Update 3.40pm: “A profoundly tragic and devastating loss for our community,” said the Minister of Youth, Culture and Sport, Senator Owen Darrell, following the passing of Marco Warren.

“Marco’s untimely passing hits us very hard, as he was a beloved member of our Youth & Sport family, working within our organisation as a youth mentor and programme leader. Marco was a humble and kind young man and our hearts are heavy today.

“He was also an incredible Bermudian football star and a rising talent who left an indelible mark on the sport. Marco was integral to the development of the younger ranks, and his loss will be felt greatly among the football community.

“Marco was a new father, and I cannot begin to express how saddened I am for his entire family. On behalf of the Ministry, I extend my sincerest, deepest and heartfelt condolences to Marco’s loved ones and friends and to our sports community. They are all in our thoughts today and in the weeks to come.”

Update 4.20pm: Shadow Sports Minister Ben Smith said, “I am shocked and outraged to learn that someone who have given so much to Bermuda has had his life unfairly cut short. Marco Warren not only played for Bermuda and PHC but he gave so much to the youth in the community as well. I would like to extend my heartfelt sympathy to his loved ones especially parents, his siblings and newborn son and the PHC family.”
