Black Pony Gallery said they are “proud to participate again in the Atlantic World Art Fair [AWAF], an online marketplace for contemporary visual art from the Caribbean mid-Atlantic region, presented on the Artsy platform in its third year, June 1-15, 2023.”

A spokesperson said, “The Atlantic World Art Fair features a curated group of knowledgeable galleries focused on talented contemporary art makers in the Caribbean, the Atlantic Islands and the region’s wider diasporas. AWAF 2023 once again highlights a dynamic, under-represented art territory with complex, intertwined histories, relations and cultures informed by peoples of Africa, Asia, the Americas, and Europe.

“The Artsy platform online now boasts the largest global base of art collectors, with almost 5 million followers on social media. This volume of art collector traffic poses a remarkable opportunity for the gallery and the artists featured.

“This year, Black Pony Gallery features 28 artworks by seven artists from five islands:

  • Dede Brown [The Bahamas]
  • Nasaria Chollette [Cayman]
  • James Cooper [Bermuda]
  • Aimée García [Cuba]
  • HezronH [Turks & Caicos]
  • John Reno Jackson [Cayman]
  • Niels Reyes [Cuba]

“Two artists, John Reno Jackson and HezronH, have been highlighted by curators Marina Reyes Franco and Direlia Lazo in their Curators’ Choice, which is very complimentary.”

2. Nasaria Chollette [Cayman], The Seer, 2022, acrylic, collage, enamel, embroidery and needle on wood pane, 18 x 18 in.

Lisa Howie says of her Black Pony Gallery presentation: “The artworks I present in this year’s AWAF all speak to elements of identity and states of being. The human condition is expressed in many ways, such as the portrait of a mythological female figure, a child at the circus, double-visioned underwater swimming bodies, or an abstract portrait of a man who raises chickens. Artists are using paint, mixed media materials, and photography in provocative ways. The subjects of the artwork and their worlds connect with me, and I hope they will have the same effect for world audiences.”

The spokesperson said, “In AWAF 2023, collectors can expect, again, a variety of visual expressions, including AI generated art, and an equitable range of price points for investment. Collectors will be provided artist and artwork details, mock room views for scale, and an online program of art talks. Collectors will make payment directly to each exhibitor and assume the shipping and handling costs of the artwork.

“Like last year, one talented artist will be selected to participate in the 2024 roster of artists in residence at Fountainhead Art Organization, Miami.
