Racehorse Flora Of Bermuda finished an impressive second at the Hilary Needler Trophy Fillies’ Condition Stakes at Beverley Racecourse in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England, yesterday [June 10].

The two-year-old filly, ridden by Oisin Murphy, wearing the Bermuda pink and navy-blue silks, went off at 9-2 in the five-furlong race in good to soft ground.

Trained by Andrew Balding, based at Park House Stables, near Newbury, Berkshire, Flora Of Bermuda ran strongly when in the clear inside the final furling, coming second behind Midnight Affair, the 5-6 favourite.

Simon Scupham, the Bermuda Racing chairman, hailed Flora Of Bermuda’s “fantastic” and “eye-catching” display and said the next stop was the Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot on June 21.

“Although she was luckless in running, her acceleration in the closing stages to finish a fast closing second was very eye-catching,” he posted on the Bermuda Racing Instagram page.

“As far as Flora was concerned, she had won, having passed the winner shortly after the post.”

Flora Of Bermuda debuted at the Chasemore Farm British EBF Fillies’ Novice Stakes at Sandown Park in Surrey on May 16, placing fourth.

She is the daughter of Dark Angel, a prolific sire who won four of his nine races as a two-year-old, including the St Leger Yearling Stakes, Mill Reed Stakes and the Middle Park Stakes.

Since forming a decade ago, Bermuda Racing has owned several Bermuda-themed horses, including Johnny Barnes, Queen Of Bermuda, Horseshoe Bay and Great Sound.
