June 17: BUEI Kids Hour To Feature Sea Turtles
The Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute [BUEI] iannounced that the topic for this month’s ‘Kids Hour Saturdays’ is Sea Turtles.
A spokesperson said, “On Saturday, June 17th, at both 11am and 2pm, ‘Kids Hour’ will screen an episode of the TV series ‘Ocean Vet’ all about Bermuda’s Green Sea Turtles. This will be followed by a reading of the book ‘Sea Turtles’ by author and illustrator Gail Gibbons.
“In the Ocean Vet episode, the late Dr. Neil Burnie helps to save Bermuda’s Green Sea Turtles and assists in groundbreaking scientific research on their health and populations, working as part of the longest-standing turtle research project in the world: The Bermuda Turtle Project.
“Follow the team as they capture and release wild Green Sea Turtles in and around our local shores and track their oceanic migrations. This episode is sure to excite viewers as activities surrounding local turtle species and local research is placed center stage.
“The book for this month’s ‘Kids Hour’ is ‘Sea Turtles’ by author and illustrator Gail Gibbons. We will learn about the adventurous lives of one of the oldest living animals on Earth. Descended from enormous prehistoric creatures, this book details the fascinating lives of the creatures who start life in eggs smaller than a baseball but can grow to weigh over a thousand pounds.
“‘Kids Hours Saturdays’ takes place every third Saturday of the month at 11 am and 2 pm respectively. Each hour features the screening of a short film followed by a book reading for children ages 5-12 years old.
“Kids Hour Saturdays are free for BUEI members [Single Parent through Adventurer Tier] and $4 per child for non-members. Please note, caregivers must stay on site for the hour.
