Minister of Public Works Lt/Col David Burch clarified that the Hilton Hotels is not part of the Co-Developer Group for the Bermudiana Beach Resort.

A Government spokesperson said, “The Minister of Public Works, Lt. Col. the Hon. David A. Burch, OBE [Mil], ED, JP, MP, wishes to correct inaccurate information that was inadvertently shared during his response to Parliamentary questions in the House of Assembly on 2 June 2023, regarding the Bermudiana Beach Resort.”

The extract of the Q&A in the House on June 2:

Minister Burch states: “I said then that Hilton Hotels were now a Co-Developer, but they are not a part of the Co-Developer Group that included the previous Company. The Co-Developers group were disbanded in September 2021 when the agreement with the former Co-Developer Group ended.

“The Co-Developer Group selected Hilton Hotels as the best choice as the brand for Bermudiana Beach Resort under the Tapestry Collection in 2019, and an agreement was signed between Hilton Hotels and Bermudiana Development Company Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Bermuda Housing Corporation.

“This agreement is for ten years from the opening of the Hotel. Hilton Hotels is one of the leading Hotel chains in the world, with over 7,000 hotels in 123 countries and will be a great fit for Bermuda.

“A major benefit with Hilton Hotels is the over 146 million members of the Hilton Honors program who support and vacation with Hilton Hotels.

“The Hotel will be marketed by the Sales and Marketing team of the Hotel, working with Hilton’s sales and marketing team for both group and individual business. The hotel will also utilise Hiltons 24/7/365 reservation systems for online and telephone bookings.

“The property is owned by Bermudiana Development Company Limited, which is also a wholly owned subsidiary of Bermuda Housing Corporation.”

Par for the course really. Nothing said by Ministers can be believed, on the odd occasion they do speak, and they are supposed to know what the truth is. Just make it up and rarely correct when called out.

Excuse me? Did you just use the words “Minister” and “truth” in the same sentence?
