The Bermuda National Gallery [BNG] is hosting an lineup of artist-led events this summer, including workshops in silverpoint drawing, mixed media collage and fashion illustration; along with a talk by British artist Rana Begum.

A spokesperson said, “Events begin this coming Saturday, July 15, with a two-hour silverpoint drawing workshop led by Dr Charles Zuill. A sensitive and delicate medium, silverpoint is remarkable for creating drawings with fine lines and subtle shading. This is an incredible opportunity to explore the rare medium under the knowledgeable guidance of Dr Zuill, a Founding Trustee of the Gallery and Bermuda’s only contemporary metal point artist.

“On Thursday, August 17, British multimedia artist Rana Begum will be hosting an insightful talk at the Gallery, in which she will be discussing the works that she currently has on display in Bermuda, both in Simplicity of Form: Unfolding Abstraction at Bermuda National Gallery and at the Hamilton Princess Hotel. Begum’s work bridges painting, sculpture, architecture and design in a contemplation on the relationship between light, material, form, colour and space. She was elected to the Royal Academy in 2019.

“On Saturday, August 26, New York–based Bermudian artist Jon Legere will host a two-hour mixed media collage workshop. This is a great opportunity for any art enthusiast to explore multiple techniques — from traditional collaging to image transfers and gestural mark making — all processes that the artist incorporates in his own mixed media work. Legere has exhibited his work in galleries globally and is a five-time Bermuda Biennial artist. His collage work was featured in the 2013 publication The Age of Collage.

“Concluding the summer of art, is a four-week fashion illustration evening class, beginning on September 6, led by multi-disciplinary artist Lyn Winford. Over the course of the programme, participants will learn how to draw a professional fashion figure, how to build colour, rendering and draping, and how to create fabrics. Winford is the founder of Billow & Luft and co-founder of Pixie Grotto Studio. Creative Director for the 35th America’s Cup and SailGP, Lyn studied at Polimoda in Florence, Italy, before moving to New York City, where she completed her studies at F.I.T. and gained experience at Ralph Lauren, Badgley Mischka and Elie Tahari.

“Sign up for all events is open at www.bng.bm/upcoming-events/ Spaces are limited.”
