[Updated] A construction crane was traveling on St. John’s Road in Pembroke “when the roadway collapsed” and the “crane tumbled down an embankment,” the police confirmed today [August 7] adding that “the crane operator appeared uninjured, but was still assessed by EMTs at the scene before being transported by ambulance to KEMH for further checks.”

Update 5.15pm: A police spokesperson said, “Around 2:35 p.m. on Monday, August 7th, 2023, police received a report that a heavy construction crane belonging to Island Construction Limited, was traveling west on St. John’s Road, Pembroke, near the junction with Cedar Avenue, when the roadway collapsed.
“The crane tumbled down an embankment stopping just short of a storage yard below.
“The crane operator appeared uninjured, but was still assessed by EMT’s at the scene before being transported by ambulance to King Edward Hospital for further checks.
“There was no damage to any private property or vehicle in the area. The roadway has now been closed in the area of the collision with traffic blocked from traveling along St. John’s Road toward Saltus Grammar School.
“Traffic is blocked at the junction of St. John’s Road and Langton Hill preventing traffic from traveling in the opposite direction.”
Now that we have an official statement saying the ‘roadway collapsed,’ Bernews has asked W&E for comment and will update as able.

Have you seen the quality of the appointed Ministers responsible for that department in the past twenty years? Mostly people who have absolutely no background in engineering anything or the construction of anything.
