Govt Taking Concerns Seriously, Doing Reviews
The Ministry of Public Works said they are “taking the concerns prompted by the St. Johns Road wall collapse very seriously and has reviewed various walls of similar age and construction,” adding that if people ”notice a wall that seems to be compromised, they can email structures@gov.bm, and a ministry engineer will inspect the wall promptly.”
This follows after a construction crane crashed down an embankment after it was traveling on St. John’s Road in Pembroke and, according to the police, “the roadway collapsed.” Fortunately no one was seriously injured in the incident which occurred earlier this week.
Following the incident Bernews asked for comment, and a Government spokesperson said, “The Ministry of Public Works is taking the concerns prompted by the St. Johns Road wall collapse very seriously and has reviewed various walls of similar age and construction. Walls identified as deficient or vulnerable are being addressed as the highest priority.
“If members of the public notice a wall that seems to be compromised, they can email structures@gov.bm, and a ministry engineer will inspect the wall promptly.
“We would like to take this opportunity to thank the public for understanding any future traffic disruptions due to remedial works to address the walls identified. A more fulsome statement will be made following the completion of these assessments.”

The wall leading to the baileys bridge needs to be inspected.I called last year about my concerns and nothing was done no inspection.
So the public is expected to do an engineers job. Government always waits for a crises to fix things. This road has been sinking for a long time but government will fix it now. Typical.
Exactly… no accountability at all. If they were a private enterprise they would have been fired and sued long ago!

Yes. The PLP Government has no money for regular maintenance. Hence the recent issue with potholes in the roads and the urgent repairs just before the annual triathlon.

They need to inspect the causeway wall because there are lots of cracks in it. They should doing inspections every few years considering the damage that hurricane Fabian did in 2003.
Get one of your W&E staff to travel our roads Island wide and note problem area’s. Why should we have to do your job for you. Unbelieveable!!!
