Cricket: Grassroots Beat Bermuda Select XI

Grassroots Cricket Academy ended their participation in the inaugural Bermuda Premier League [BPL] on a winning note, as they defeated Bermuda Select XI by 63 runs in the Plate Final at National Sports Centre, North Field on Sunday.
The youthful Antigua and Barbuda squad outclassed the team from the Bermuda, a mixture of emerging and experienced players, with a complete performance in the batting, bowling and fielding departments.
Batting first the visitors amassed an above par score of 163 for four, with Uri Smith leading the way with 39 runs, while batting at No. 3.
He was not alone in the batting department, as captain Kadeem Henry [34], Larry Audain [28], Michael Dover [27] and Amahl Nathaniel, whose 16 not out at the end came from just nine balls and included two massive heaves over the boundary for six.
Allan Douglas Jr [two for 31] again staked his claim for a spot in the senior squad as the most effective bowler, while teenage fast bowler Jermel Proctor took one for 27.
After having had the top order struggle mightily during the first three matches, coach Clay Smith finally discovered an effective opening partnership in the form of JD Albertze [50] and Treadwell Gibbons [29].
The pair laid a solid foundation of 78 for the first wicket, before Gibbons was dismissed and a collapse ensued, ending with Bermuda Select XI being bowled out for 100.
Henry was named Man of the Match after completingd a fine all round performance, taking four for 15, while Paul Miller had three for eight and Uri Smith claimed the final two wickets without conceding a run.
Grassroots Cricket Academy wicket-keeper/batsman, Michael Dover, received the Batsman of the Series award for scoring a total of 135 runs in four outings at an average of 45 runs per innings.
