The One Bermuda Alliance [OBA] has announced Dwayne Robinson as their candidate for Constituency 30, Southampton East Central, and Dr Douglas De Couto as their candidate for Constituency 25, Warwick North East.

Constituency 30 is currently held by the PLP’s Jason Wade, while the PLP’s Ianthia Simmons-Wade is the current MP for Constituency 25.

A spokesperson said, “The One Bermuda Alliance is pleased to announce Dwayne Robinson as the adopted candidate for Constituency 30, Southampton East Central. Mr Robinson grew up in Albert Row, Dockyard and attended Sandy’s Secondary Middle School before attending CedarBridge Academy. Mr Robinson subsequently earned his General Education Certificate [GED]. Committed to giving back to the community, he has volunteered at the SPCA, Big Brother’s Big Sister of Bermuda, Raleigh International, and the Family Learning Centre.

“Drafted into the Bermuda Regiment in 2013, the married father of one served for five years, working his way up to the rank of Corporal. Mr Robinson also served as an instructor and section commander.

“A creative, he is the co-founder of It’s That Type of Party—a political/social commentary content creating platform, and the co-founder of Neo Apex Productions. Mr also completed a brief stint co-hosting a show on Bermuda College Radio during the Class Clowns segment.

“These ventures yielded opportunities for Mr Robinson to work with a number of creatives over the years, producing short films, music videos, photoshoots, YouTube videos, adverts, and other content.

“His team created a film called Confessions: The Power of Birth which won the Bermuda Society of Arts competition and was shown at BIFF in 2015.

“Currently, Mr Robinson is the co-host of the weekly political radio talk show, Motion to Adjourn, on Power 95FM with PLP MP Chris Famous.

“Instead of simply talking about problems affecting Bermudians, Mr Robinson took the decision to enter politics and joined the One Bermuda Alliance. He was appointed Senator in November 2018, by then Opposition Leader, Craig Cannonier, JP, MP.

“He was elected as a Deputy co-chair of the One Bermuda Alliance in 2022 and is the adopted candidate for constituency 30, Southampton East Central.

“Mr Robinson is currently employed by Conyers Dill & Pearman as an Immigration Specialist.

“The One Bermuda Alliance is pleased to announce Douglas S. J. De Couto Ph.D., J.P. as the adopted candidate for constituency 25, Warwick North East.

“Born in Bermuda, Douglas has 18 years of experience in the reinsurance, insurance, and investments sector in Bermuda, primarily in risk management and underwriting analytics.

“During his career he has innovated many new approaches to using technology to manage risk. Douglas earned his Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology [MIT], where he created some of the first wireless mesh networking technology. He also holds a certificate in Financial Engineering from the MIT Sloan School of Business.

“In university, Douglas participated in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters programme, and served on the MIT Campus Committee on Race Relations.

“Douglas has served on the board of the National Museum of Bermuda [NMB] since 2006, and as its Chairman since 2021. He has a keen interest in Bermuda history and culture, which he explores by researching historical documents and data. He is especially proud of the Museum’s work to become a place where everyone in Bermuda can find their story.

“Douglas is an avid sailor, and has competed extensively locally and internationally, including in the traditional Bermuda Fitted Dinghies. In university he was a member and captain of the MIT Varsity Sailing team.

“Douglas’s activity in Bermuda includes his time with the Bermuda Regiment [now Royal Bermuda Regiment], where he served as Lance Corporal. He maintains a keen interest in the success and wellbeing of the RBR and its soldiers.

“Douglas is married to Rebecca, and they have two sons in middle school and a daughter in university. The best part of every day is spending time with his family and being together on the water whenever possible.”

PLP will no doubt be working hard to issue their character assassination attacks.

  2. Hmm says:

Two more clowns that will fail. Dwayne keeps moving seats hoping for a win

He literally has been all over the place. He would be better off sticking to one area and working hard in that area. He ran in C17 against Jason Hayward, C28 against Dennis Lister 3rd, and now has moved to C30 against Jason Wade where he is likely to take another L. Not understanding the thought pattern here.

I bet 3rd time is the charm especially against Gencom mate Jason Wade. Both his and Crystal Caesar’s (sp) days as MP’s are numbered. C30 and C31 not as easily duped (at least not for as long) as other constituencies.

        • watching says:

Don’t underestimate Jason Wade. He is a great community and grassroots politician. You don’t always have to be in the newspapers to be making a difference.
Also, I wouldn’t bet on C31 forgetting how Ben left them when he caught sight of a safe(ish) seat in C8. She works hard and is very responsive. OBA would need to put someone very strong there.

      • Dwayne Robinson says:

Hello, as I have been working hard in C30 for the last two and a half years. I have always stepped up to provide people with an alternative. I value all the connections I have made across these constituencies.

It is not uncommon for folks to move seats depending on various factors.
        1. They applied for another seat and were unsuccessful.
        2. Another candidate has stronger ties to a constituency.
        3. An MP or Candidate vacates a seat or retires.

In my case I live in C30 and due to a vacancy I now have the chance to represent the community I live in. I have worked hard in each seat I was placed and continue to work hard for my constituency and Bermuda as a whole.
